Mix 1 1/2 cup flour and yeast. Heat milk, sugar and salt until warm. Add shortening and stir until melted. Add to bowl of dry mix. add eggs. Beat on low for 1/2 minute, scraping sides. Beat on high for 3 minutes. By hand stir in rest of flour to make moderately soft dough. Turn out on lightly floured surface. Knead until smooth and elastic. Shape into ball. Place in lightly grease bowl and let rise in warm place until dough is doubled in size, about 1 hour. Punch dough down and turn out on floured surface again. divide dough in half, roll out to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut with floured dough cutter, place on cookie sheet. Let rise until very light (30-45 mins). Fry in deep hot fat (375 degrees) until golden, about 1/2 to 1 minute each side. Drain on papertowels.
