Mix thoroughly shortening, brown sugar and eggs. Stir in sour cream or buttermilk and flour. Mix pecans, dates and cherries. Chill at least 1 hour or overnight. Drop by teaspoons on lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes or until there is almost no imprint left when touched or golden brown. Watch carefully as they burn easily. Makes 8 dozen.
