Cook dates in 1/4 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water for 10 minutes. Beat to a paste and add flavoring. Mix remaining ingredients until thoroughly combined and crummy. Put 1/2 of the resulting crumbs in well-oiled loaf pan. Press down with hand. Cover with date paste. Add remainder of crumbs.
Press gently again. Bake in moderate oven (350 F) about 25 minutes. Cool and serve with whipped cream. The Household Searchlight
