Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs. Mix well. Add flavoring. Sift 5 cups flour, measure, and sift with salt, nutmeg, and baking soda. Add to first mixture. Add raisins which have been dredged in 1/2 cup sifted flour. Mix thoroughly. Form in rolls 2 inches in diameter. Chill overnight. Cut in thin slices. Place on slightly oiled baking sheet.
