1 Teelöffel | vegetable oil |
6 Tasse | Green Apples; peeled, cored and diced |
1/2 Tasse | apple juice |
1/2 Teelöffel | cinnamon ground |
1 1/2 Tasse | all-purpose flour |
1/2 Tasse | whole wheat flour |
2 Teelöffel | baking powder |
1 1/2 Teelöffel | Baking soda |
1/2 Teelöffel | cinnamon ground |
1/4 Teelöffel | salt |
1 1/3 Tasse | buttermilk |
1 1/3 Tasse | apple juice |
1 Esslöffel | honey |
4 | egg whites |
Heat oil in a heavy large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add apples and saute until golden brown and just tender, about 10 minutes. Add apple juice and cinnamon and continue cooking until sauce is slightly thickened, about 3 minutes. Cover and keep warm.
Sift flours, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and salt into a large bowl. Whisk in buttermilk, juice and honey. Using an electric mixer, beat egg whites in another bowl until stiff. Fold into batter. Cook in a waffle iron according to manufacturer's instructions. Serve immediately with applesauce.
