For Obesity: Excessive weight can make your cat uncomfortable. It can also shorten his or her life. The overweight cat may have difficulty exercising or even breathing. Bone structure may be sorely strained and arthritis can result when a cat is carrying extra pounds. Fat may hinder the proper functioning of the heart, liver, or digestive tract.
Reducing your cat's ration of regular food is not the best solution because when you reduce amounts enough to cut calories, you also reduce the essential proteins, vitamins, and mineral necessary for good health.
The feline reducing diet (r/d) is low in calories because carbohydrates and fats are reduced to the minimum amount necessary for good health and good digestion. But the r/d does provide an ample supply of protein, vitamins and minerals. This diet is suitable for cats with a history of F.U.S. (feline urological syndrome) because mineral levels are restricted.
Directions: Combine all ingredients. Yields 1-3/4 pounds

Snacking and scavenging should be absolutely forbidden during the reducing period. After the cat attains an ideal weight, a quality maintenance diet at a level which just maintains that weight can be initiated.
This recipe is so specialized that it is not recommended for cats that are, in general, healthy. If you suspect that your cat has a problem that would require a special diet, we recommend that you consult your veterinarian before starting your pet on one of these dietary programs.
