6 | Spanish onions, very thinly sliced |
1/2 Tasse | vinegar |
1/2 Tasse | water |
3/4 Tasse | sugar |
2 Teelöffel | salt |
1 1/4 Tasse | Mayonnaise or similar salad dressing |
2 Esslöffel | celery seed |
1. Slice the onions very thinly and place them in a plastic or glass dish.
2. Combine the vinegar, water, sugar and salt. Mix well to dissolve the sugar and salt. Pour over the onions and mix well. Put a plate on top of the onions and set a weight on it. A plastic bottle of oil or vinegar works well. Let the onions sit on the counter all day- overnight is best.
3. Drain the onions. (You will wonder where all the liquid came from!)
4. Combine the dressing and celery seed and toss with the onions.
