1 Packung | yeast |
1 Tasse | Warm water (105 to 115 degrees) |
1 Esslöffel | sugar |
1 1/2 Tasse | all-purpose flour |
1/2 Teelöffel | Salt optional |
1 1/2 Tasse | whole wheat flour |
Dissolve yeast in warm water in a medium mixing bowl: add sugar and let stand 5 minutes. Add all-purpose flour and salt; beat at low speed of an electric mixer until smooth. Gradually stir in whole wheat flour. Turn dough out onto a floured surface; knead 3 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover dough and let rest 10 minutes. Divide dough into 6 equal protions; shape each portion into a smooth ball. Pat each ball into a 5 inch circle. Place circles on lightly sprayed baking sheets. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Cut in half with scissors to make bread rounds or pockets. Serves 12.
I got this recipe for pita bread from "the Mormon Diet Cookbook". I personally have not made this yet because of lack of time, but so far the recipes in this book have not been bad. Hope you like this one.
