Saute onions in oil in large saucepan until they are brown. Add spices and saute for a few seconds. Add 1 cup lentils, 1 cup brown rice. Add 3 cups boiling water. Cover and simmer until rice and lentils are tender (about 1 hour). You may need to add water, depending on the kind of rice used.
Serve hot or cold. Good in pita dressed with hot sauce, soy sauce or whatever.
