Place the whole almonds in a food processor and pulse to chop finely. In a mixing bowl toss together the pulverized almonds, apples, powdered sugar, flour, cinnamon and vanilla. Place the mixture in a 8" square baking dish.
Place the topping ingredients in a food processor and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Pour the topping mixture over the apples. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake at 325 ° for 35 minutes. Uncover and bake about 15-20 minutes more or until topping is golden brown. Serve warm! Serves 4-6.
