Beat sugar and butter until fluffy. Add eggs, beating well. Mix in chocolate syrup. Combine flour, baking powder and cocoa. Add to butter mixture, beating well. Stir in almonds. Divide dough in half. Shape each portion into a 9x2 inch log. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Cool. Cut each log diagonally into 1/2-inch slices using a serrated knife. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 5 minutes, turn cookies over and bake another 5 minutes. Cool. Serve with coffee.
