In a mixing bowl, combine the eggs, flour, baking powder and dates. In a small pan, melt the butter. Add the sugar and mix thoroughly. Pour this butter and sugar mixture over the ingredients in the bowl.
Line an 8" square pan with wax paper. Pour the batter into the pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes or until firm. Cut into narrow bars and dust with powdered sugar.
Although this cookie was one created to celebrate the newly available iceboxes in the 1890s, they're just as good tasting and just as handy to keep in today's refrigerators.
