measure flour, oats, sugar, baking soda, salt and butter into large bowl, cut butter into the ingredients until crumbly. Press half of crumbs into greased 9" square pan. In saucepan, combine dates, sugar and water. Bring to boil and allow to simmer until mushy. Add more water if necessary. Spread over bottom crumbs and sprinkle remaining crumbs over top. Press down lightly with hand. Bake in 350 oven for 30 minutes until a rich golden brown colour.
