Put wooden skewers in apples. Put sugars, syrup, water, butter in saucepan and stir over low heat until sugar dissolves. Cook without stirring to medium-crack stage (272 degrees). Remove form heat, add vanilla. Dip apples into syrup, place on buttered platter to cool.
