Mix flour and salt in bowl. cut in 1 c butter and oil until mixture resembles coarse meal. sprinkle with water, tossing with fork until dough holds together. gather into ball and chill a few minutes if dough is too soft to handle. roll out pastry on floured board and fit into 10 inch quiche pan or pie plate. Filling: saute onion in butter. Add thyme and bay leaf. remove bay leaf.
cook bacon until crisp, then drain. blend eggs, yolks, half and half and nutmeg. place bacon, onion and cheese in pastry shell.
cover with egg mixture. bake at 350F 35-40 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean.
